Hair on hides Baby Leopard cow hides are stenciled with a small version of the regular Leopard. HOH have a specific tanning process to retain the hair. During the tanning process the hides are treated with oils in order to keep them as soft as possible. After tanning these hides are bleached to remove as much of the natural pigment so that the dye will take more consistent. Next the hides are dyed to give the hides as much consistency as possible. Even though the hides are bleached and then dyed or color the base color for these articles will vary due to the fact leather is a natural product. No two hides will ever match each other exactly and you will see color variation within each hide. Remember, that when dying hair the color is absorbed differently in each strand of hair and the pigment left behind in each strand will affect the way the hair takes the color. HOH are great for upholstery and as rugs because they require little maintenance. HOH are a category that is not tested to have any specific leather specifications. Note that they can fade with prolonged exposure to sunlight and the hair color could dissipate with use in high traffic areas.
